FE EN ACCION (Faith in Action)

Last week we enjoyed hosting the youth group from Rehoboth URC (our home church) and their fearless leaders. 16 youth and 8 chaperones arrived full of enthusiasm ready to put their faith into action. The week started with a little bump in that on the first night one of the students who shall remain nameless…stood up on her top bunk while getting ready for bed and was struck in the head by the metal blade of the ceiling fan. She now has a lovely bald spot that was shaved so that the wound could be cleaned and examined. The next day she felt great and has since participated in everything. For most of them, this was their first experience in seeing such poverty and filth. It is hard to fathom how the people live with so little and yet seem to very happy. Building a home and painting windows were the construction goals for the mornings…and did they ever work hard!!! While the guys sweated out in the hot sun pouring cement, installing a roof and digging a septic pit, the girls found a shady spot to paint windows and make lots of new friends. The afternoons were dedicated to ministry outreach opportunities: teaching about God’s creation in the school and a VBS program in a local church, serving a hot meal to hungry children, and visiting a school and an orphanage. Hola!! Como esta?? Como se llama? Dios te bendiga! Cristo te ama! Trabajando por Cristo! Puedo orar con usted? Translation- Hello. How are you? God bless you! Christ loves you! Working for Christ!! Can I pray with you? These were well used words today as they visited the Hospital in Puerto Plata. Friday morning they were blessed to be part of the dedication of the house they built this week. G.P. and his two daughters, Desia and Jenali expressed their thankfulness to God and to us for the work we put into their new home. G.P.'s wife passed away 4 years ago, his older daughter studies in Santo Domingo and Janeli lives in the village with her father who is the tailor. After John gave a brief message from the word, the family received a Spanish Bible, a welcome gift bag and care packages for the family.
By early next week, the inside plumbing will be completed and then they can move in. They will immediately demolish their old house before someone else moves in.
It is our prayer that God will bless the seeds that were planted this week and that by His Grace we may continue with servant hearts in sharing our love for Christ with those we come into contact with each and every day.
Praise God from whom all Blessings flow!! Since January 15th, 2010 we have been honoured to have fellowship and host the 11 teams that have come, been blessed and touched the lives of so many people. We are looking forward to recharging our batteries with a break in the schedule. Two whole weeks off!!!! P.T.L.

PRAYER REQUEST

Friends -
Please pray for a young man from Kitchener, Ontario, Canada who is here in the Dominican Republic on a mission trip with "IN Network Canada" and working with the Samaritan Foundation. This afternoon, the railing on the balcony of his 3rd story hotel room gave way, sending him crashing to the ground below.
He has been taken to Bournigal hospital in Puerto Plata and is in critical condition. Tonight, he has been diagnosed with a severed spine and needs surgery in the next 24 hrs to stop the bleeding and fuse his spine. His name is Daniel Digu --- PLEASE pray with us for him, his family, the doctors, and his team members. Thank you.

UPDATE ON JAMES COATES / DOMINICAN MINISTRY

Today I visited with Jim & Sue to keep them abreast of the daily happenings of their feeding ministry in villa Ascension. It has been a great help to have so many teams assist with serving the hot meals and cleaning up the dishes afterwards. However, that time has come to an end and all the groups have returned home. The next 6 weeks are critical, in that the burden of the work has fallen once again on the shoulders of a few.
Bill & Donna Reimer have taken a leading role along with me in ensuring that 200 children and 25 elderly folks receive their hot meal twice a week. Unfortunately, they need to return to beautiful British Columbia for a month. During this same time, Jane will also be returning to Canada in anticipation of the birth of our first grandchild.
Please keep this ministry in your prayers as we appeal to those who are able, to come and help keep the feeding programs running during our absence. Jim had another CAT scan yesterday, and it showed that 90 % of the hemorrhaged blood has now been reabsorbed into his body. He is grateful for the treatments of the physiotherapist even though at times it can be painful. This is a good sign that he can feel some tingling in his toes on the left side. He is “un poco flaco” (skinny) but his appetite has returned with a vengeance. Sue went to villa Ascension this past Monday with Bill & Donna. It was a joyous reunion for both her and the people to be together once again! Many fervent prayers have been prayed by the people in Ascension for Jim’s recovery. The date for Sue’s return on a regular basis is still uncertain, so please continue to pray for a Jim’s recovery, the care Sue gives him at home, and that the ministry work will continue in villa Ascension.

Oops!

In the previous posting, unfortunately I forgot to include a picture of one more group…the Runnymede Community Church Mission team from Toronto. Please accept my apologies for this omission. They worked in villa Esperanza painting windows and doors, and spent a lot of time with the children. Thank you for sponsoring house # 83 in which the family of Senora Angy Barde, Senor Narsiso Ateno and their first child will live.
