Our most recent home dedication in Esperanza was done in a totally unique manner. …a round table discussion was necessary to dedicate a home. Since the Haitian lady receiving the home only spoke Creole…and our translators & John did not…. they improvised on the spot…. John spoke in English (for the team’s benefit) then Isachar translated the words into Spanish so Mateo (the unofficial town mayor) could translate them into Creole. It all worked out amazingly well. The Mission Direct team from England named their sponsored home Jubilee Cottage in honour of the Queen’s Jubilee. Trying to explain what a cottage is….was a little difficult because to their sponsored family….even a small cinder block home is a castle. Construction is nearing an end in villa Esperanza…there is room for only about 15 more homes to be built which we anticipate will be finished by the end of this summer. Four years in the making, villa Esperanza has changed significantly from a barrio of tin shacks crammed tightly together with black water flowing freely between them to a thriving community with a church, school, medical clinic and the Recycle Hope Jewelry Shop.
